Early morning raids bring down 5 leading members of the organization
In a move straight out of a suspense novel, the leader of infamous hacking troupe?LulzSec teamed up with federal agents to bring down top members of organization in an early morning sting that spanned two continents. A total of five high-ranking LulzSec members ? two from Ireland, two from Great Britain, and one American ? are now in custody thanks to help from Hector "Sabu" Monsegur, the alleged leader of the digital gang.
In the past, LulzSec has targeted both companies and government entities, setting its sights on the?U.S. Senate, British newspaper? The Sun, and even the CIA. Monsegur was one of the most sought-after members of the crew before the FBI secretly nabbed him in June of 2011, at which point he switched sides and became a witness against the anti-government organization he helped create.
The FBI is understandably pleased with how things have gone. An official weighed in on the situation, stating: "This is devastating to the organization.?We're chopping off the head of LulzSec." As comprehensive this crackdown appears to be, whether it will actually put an end to LulzSec's hacking activities remains to be seen.
